Verismo® 580 Brewer Silver
Lattes at Home
I love Starbucks and I love this machine. Two pushes of buttons and I have my own latte - which tastes just like the ones at Starbucks. And if you want to get fancy, you can purchase the syrups and caramels and make any of their signature drinks. Best purchase ever.

The Verismo is my 3rd single cup brewer and an addition to my Starbucks semi-automatic espresso machine purchased in 2002. It arrived well packed and took me less than 5 minutes to be up and brewing. I was a little concerned about what the milk pods would taste like so I was anxious to try the cafe latte sample pack that came with it. I was more than pleasantly surprised. The milk pods were great. The espresso brewed well. I must say that the brewing temperature is a little low though for brewing a proper shot of espresso, however brewing it into a shot glass you can see the different layers that comprise a good shot of espresso, with a good layer of crema on the top. That is surprising giving the lower brew temp and the fact that it's only a 19 bar machine. Overall I am very satisfied and it exceeded my expectations. The price to brew a double shot latte comes in just under what you would pay for the same thing in a store. That makes it the most expensive single cup brewer to use on the market, but the quality is well worth it and keeps me from having to get into the mess of my semi-automatic machine. The price of the pods, and the lower brew temp are the only reasons this machine didn't get a 5 star rating from me.

I love this machine!
The only thing I can think of that would make it better is to have the small glasses as shown in the pictures; the ones the fit the machine when making espresso. Bit this is small compared to the excellence of this machine. I love it!

I am on my second Model 580--the first one was returned because it did not make hot enough coffee, and there was a frothy-type film on the coffee when brewed. My second Model 580 is no better than the first one--it does not make hot enough coffee, and there is a frothy film on the coffee when brewed. I can't seem to get an answer as to why the coffee is not hot enough and why there is a frothy film on the coffee when brewed. When purchasing coffee at a Starbucks location, the coffee is definitely hot and no frothy film.
Incidentally, when I received my second 580, the instructions said to take the plastic film off the grate where the coffee cup sits. No plastic film was on the grate, but I noticed that the paint was bubbling and chipped on the edges of the grate. This does not affect the way the coffee is brewed, but is definitely a quality control issue. The Model 580 needs a complete overhaul or discontinue it completely.

Gross coffee + inconvenient
First, the coffee: It doesn't taste remotely like Starbucks. That aside, it doesn't even taste good. I tried several different kinds of pods and types of drinks, and they were all bland.
Next, the machine: It is a pain to use. You have to rinse it before every cup. The pods often fall through before you press the button, then water/old coffee gets everywhere when you try to retrieve the pod. Then you have to either reuse it after it's wet and dirty or throw it away unused.
I returned this after a week. Very disappointing.
