This is our first sun-dried Sumatra and it comes from the Wahana Estate.

Until now, we've never offered a sun-dried coffee from Sumatra – a country renowned more for its semi-washed coffees – where a determined generation of farmers is challenging tradition to coax bold, unexpected flavors from the beans. Native to Sumatra, this Rasuna varietal is cultivated on the Wahana Estate, where it matures slowly in the shade of native trees. Once ripe, the cherries are handpicked and laid out in the sun to dry with the pulp on, infusing each bean with the fruits natural sweetness.

This Starbucks Reserve® coffee is available only at select times and stores, so be sure to enjoy it when you can.

The Wahana Estate sits in the mountains surrounding Lake Toba, Indonesia's largest lake and the largest volcanic crater lake in the world. Growing at 1,300 – 1,500 m above sea level, the Rasuna coffee trees in Wahana Estate are shaded by native trees to prevent direct sunlight and allow coffee trees to mature more slowly.

Amazing! Unlike any coffee I have ever had. This is a very unique coffee. As soon as I opened the bag I got the aroma of fruit. Typically, a Sumatran coffee will hit you with a spicy aroma. That's your first clue you are in for something special. In the cup the coffee is definitely fruity. I agree with the tasting notes that state "dried fruits". That is spot on. That fruitiness is very enjoyable. Then, the coffee finishes with a hint of spiciness (think cinnamon, not black pepper). Honestly, it's just the right amount of spiciness. Something else I noticed about this coffee is that there is no bitterness. That helps to make this coffee very drinkable without any added cream or sugar. This coffee is unlike anything you have every tried before from Sumatra. I brewed this coffee in a French press and the results were great. I used 2 tbsp of coarsely ground coffee for every 6 oz. of water. I used filtered, bottled water just off a boil (195-205 degrees). I steeped my coffee in the press for 4 minutes and the result was an amazing cup of coffee. Give this coffee a try. You will not be disappointed. March 28, 2013
Coffee with sophistcation! This coffe has has a dark rich taste with a subltly complex flavor. Compared with the Regular Sumatran beans, the sun dried beans maintain a much richer and darker flavor. Suprisingly smooth with the rich darkness associated with hand cured coffees that I have had in many different countries throughout Eastern Europe, Asia, So Asia and Oceania. March 28, 2013
Great flavor with a body to hold it. When I smell this coffee, the first thing that hits my nose is that amazing aroma. I grabbed notes from that drying process that are distinct and herbaly. I paired this coffee with my morning oatmeal, and the flavors of the dried fruit, nuts, and the brown sugar made everything come to life even more. I love this coffee and it's full body with an incredible finish and great mouthfeel. Quite an experience. March 19, 2013
Great tasting coffee I have tried many sumatra whole beans from all over and this Sun-Dried Sumatra bean is the best. Great smell when it is being brewed in my french press. One cup is all I need. I love the full bodied flavor. January 12, 2013
Delicious! The jam notes described are accurate. I love the aroma and taste of this coffee. It reminds me strawberries. It's great with toast & jam and berries. I've purchased it a few times already and will continue to restock until it's no longer available. I love this coffee! January 9, 2013
