Starbucks Reserve® Sun-Dried Sumatra

$18.00
8 oz
Spicy and full-bodied with complex flavors of rhubarb jam and tarragon.
Availability:  This item is not available.

This is our first sun-dried Sumatra and it comes from the Wahana Estate.

Until now, we've never offered a sun-dried coffee from Sumatra – a country renowned more for its semi-washed coffees – where a determined generation of farmers is challenging tradition to coax bold, unexpected flavors from the beans. Native to Sumatra, this Rasuna varietal is cultivated on the Wahana Estate, where it matures slowly in the shade of native trees. Once ripe, the cherries are handpicked and laid out in the sun to dry with the pulp on, infusing each bean with the fruits natural sweetness.

This Starbucks Reserve® coffee is available only at select times and stores, so be sure to enjoy it when you can.

Tasting Notes Spice & Dried Fruit

Region asia-pacific

Producer:  Wahana Estate

Elevation:  1,300 - 1,500 meters

Coffee Variety:  Rasuna

Processing Method:  Natural (dry)

The Wahana Estate sits in the mountains surrounding Lake Toba, Indonesia's largest lake and the largest volcanic crater lake in the world. Growing at 1,300 – 1,500 m above sea level, the Rasuna coffee trees in Wahana Estate are shaded by native trees to prevent direct sunlight and allow coffee trees to mature more slowly.

Sumatra is For Lovers!!

By DavidTTU

from Dallas, TX

Sun Dried Sumatra - whether you order it as a pour over, home brew or Clover Brew it (the last is the best) - is an amazing coffee. It has a full body taste that is truly for the coffee drinker. It awakens your senses and powers me up for the day!

It has a very low acidity so you won't feel weird after enjoying your morning brew. It is very smooth and rich in coffee flavor. Not to mention, naturally sweet so you dont have to dress it up with added calories.

This coffee will take you places - so choose your adventure wisely!!

Not as good as past Sumatra varieties.

By Michael79

from Windermere, FL, USA

I eagerly picked up a bag of this as soon as it was available. From much past experience, I've never gone wrong with any iteration of Sumatra coffees from Starbucks. The Black Apron Exclusive Aged Sumatra of a few years ago was my absolute favorite and I snatched up as much as I could find. This variety however, while at least palatable, did not impress me much at all. It has a much too fruity taste for me, much more along the line of Kenya or Guatamala Antigua. Most Sumatra roasts from Starbucks that I've tried have had a darker rich smokey taste. I had saved this for when I had a family member visiting and even she, unprompted by me, commented that it tasted strange. Definitely not a horrible coffee by any means, but not fitting of my palate at all. And that's the first time I've ever said that of a Starbucks Reserve coffee.

Worst Coffee in the world

By Sumatrasgross

from Chicago, IL, USA

This coffee was recomended by a SB employee at $18 per 1/2 lb. It smelled like black berries but I thought it would brew better as it came so highly recomended. Unfortunatly the coffee did not live up to its reputation and in fact tasted like a 7 Eleven grape slurpee. I brought it back to the SB store but the employees looked like deers in headlights and did nothing about my disatisfation. I bought some French roast and left. I gave the Sumatra to my brother who said "it is horrible. It tastes like dirt covered berries. the after taste is even worse." Enjoy, we didnt.

An exceptional flavor with full body and an array of spices. I only wish this was available in stores.

Amazing coffee, not what you expect

This is not like any other Sumatra I've had, it's lighter and almost fruity. Smooth and floral.

Worth the effort

As soon as I brewed it, I knew it was going to be good. The flavor profile says hints of rhubarb jam and tarragon. You can smell the fruitiness as it brews.

As with all the other reserve coffees I've tried, brewing at a precise temperature makes a difference. I like my coffees hot, so I have to be careful to wait a bit for these.

Great coffee for Autumn

I purchased this coffee for my husband who loves a good french press. Typically, I cannot drink a french pressed coffee black, but this one I could. It has a wonderful flavor, especially when paired with pumpkin pie. The spices really brought out the flavors in the coffee, and the pumpkin brought out the rhubarb.

I wish the reserve products were more widely available. I can accept the higher cost of the coffee but the shipping is a killer.

Excellent Coffee

By tetvet6768

from WA

This coffee has a most pleasing and different taste as well as aroma. It is a wonderful 'change' from the 'normal' types of coffee, regardless of their origin. The sun-dried process makes for a most wonderful experience.
