Starbucks Reserve® Panama Los Cantares

Founded in 1929, the Los Cantares Estate was among the first to export coffee from Panama's remote Volcán growing region. For 18 years, current owner Marie Jackie Mercer Vallarino has nurtured the business by caring for the land and its workers.

Abundant water from the adjoining Chiriquí Viejo River, rich soil and plentiful shade trees contribute to a memorable coffee with delicate body and bright acidity. The estate has won multiple Best of Panama awards, and one taste of this coffee proves why.

Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.

Los Cantares Estate provides work to the nomadic Ngöbe-Buglé people, who come down from the mountains every year to work as coffee pickers on the farms in the region. During the harvest season, producer Marie Jackie Mercer Vallarino provides living quarters and medical resources for approximately 200 workers and their families, as well as education for their children.

Great tasting coffee My favorite coffees are vibrant, floral Ethiopian coffees and this coffee can measure up against those vibrant, floral Ethiopian coffees. The aroma is wonderfully floral, so much so that you could be fooled into thinking this is an Ethiopian coffee. The taste is citrussy without being overly acidic. It has a mild sweetness to it with a hint of tangelo in the finish. This coffee is beautiful as an iced coffee. I highly recommend an iced coffee preparation. Don't mask the flavors of this coffee with cream and sugar. This coffee is perfect as is. I'm a Starbucks partner so I have had the pleasure and privilege of tasting many, many excellent coffees and this is one of the best. I love brewing coffee in a French press and this coffee tastes great from a French press. The aroma alone will make your mouth water. If you like East African coffees then you will like this coffee.
