Starbucks Reserve® Organic Ethiopia Sidamo

$15.00
8 oz
An elegant East African coffee with a distinctive bergamot aroma, lemony flavor and a hint of spice.
Availability:  Out of Stock

These exotic beans have journeyed all the way from the fertile Sidamo region in Ethiopia, East Africa, to your cup. There they culminate in an astounding complexity of flavors and aromas: sweet Meyer lemon layered with spicy gingerbread and graham cracker notes and a citrus aroma.

Meticulously tended by an experienced, older generation of farmers who adhere to tradition—coffee trees are cultivated in family gardens alongside the food they grow to eat—each cherry is ripened and handpicked at its peak of flavor for you to savor.

This Starbucks Reserve® coffee is available only at select times and stores, so be sure to enjoy it when you can.

Tasting Notes Spicy gingerbread, graham cracker and lemon.

Region africa-arabia

Producer:  This coffee is produced in the Sidamo region, located in the southern part of Ethiopia, by the farmers of the Homacho Waeno Cooperative.

Elevation:  2,000 meters

Variety:  Bourbon

Processing Method:  Washed

Harvest Dates:  November 2010 - February 2011

In the fertile volcanic soil of the Sidamo region, farmers plant small coffee plots in their family gardens with coffee trees growing among the very foods that feed their families. This intercropping of coffee with food crops helps support biodiversity and replenishes the soil. However, mastering this unique ecosystem is only for the few and highly experienced farmers who can maintain the delicate process.

Perfection in a cup This coffee is perfection in a cup. I'm being completely serious. This coffee blew me away when I had it for the first time. The aroma is sweet and fragrant. It lets you know that you are in for an incredible coffee experience. While I normally prefer the pour over for Starbucks Reserve coffees, I could tell by the aroma of the whole beans that a French press would really bring out the flavor of this coffee. I'm glad I chose the French press as it really did bring out the sweetness and floral notes of this coffee. At first you get this sweet, almost butterscotch, flavor. Then the citrusy floral notes come in. If you have ever peeled an orange then you know what kind of flavor I am talking about. This coffee has a mild acidity that makes for a really clean finish and leaves you ready for the next sip. This is the most drinkable coffee I have every tried. It really is perfection in a cup. If you are used to using cream and sugar in your coffee I strongly encourage you to try this coffee on its own before adding anything to it. If you really want to get the full impact of this coffee it is best to drink it black. On that note, it is important to make sure that you have the correct proportion of coffee to water and coffee ground to the right grind for your brew method. Starbucks recommends 2 tbsp. of ground coffee for every 6 oz. of water. For a French press use a coarse grind. A flat bottom filter brewer will require a slightly finer grind, and a cone filter will be an even finer grind. Not sure how to achieve the correct grind on your own? Take you Starbucks Reserve coffee to your nearest Starbucks store and your barista will be happy to grind it for you to the correct setting. With a coffee this good, you will do yourself and the coffee a huge favor by being precise in your brewing. Cheers! July 27, 2012
The best Starbucks coffee This is, hands down, the best coffee Starbucks sells. The only issue I have with it is it's limited availability online. I absolutely love this coffee and drink it whenever I find a Starbucks with the Clover brewing system. I highly recommend it. May 25, 2012
Unique flavor bean This coffee us substantially bold mellowed with a slight naturally sweet overtone that make it ever so pleasant, and universal in its appeal. May 7, 2012
Excellent coffee I think this is the most outstanding coffee in the Starbuck's lineup. It comes the closest to tasting like the smell of coffee brewing. I always watch for it when it comes up for sale. April 30, 2012
One of my favorites! As a partner I'm exposed to all of the coffee Starbucks offers but this is one of my favorites. It pairs well with some of my favorite pastries and is a delight to drink black. How I wish it was available year round! April 26, 2012
