Producer:  This two-region coffee blend is produced on smallholder farms in the villages of Kayumas and Curah Tatal in East Java and on the north side of Bandung, the capital city of West Java.

Elevation:  3,000 – 5,000 feet

Variety:  Typica

Processing Method:  Semi-washed and wet-hulled

Harvest Dates:  May-September 2011

This coffee from Indonesia is processed differently than the typically washed coffees from Latin America. The skins of wet-processed coffee beans are removed or "hulled" while they are still moist, then allowed to dry. While most washed coffees do not go through this wet hulling step, the process reduces acidity and increases body, resulting in a smooth, earthy flavor profile that Indonesian coffees are known for.

Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.

A captivating coffee from the island of Java.

On the semi-forested slopes of eastern Java in Indonesia, we made a unique discovery—unroasted coffee beans with a stunning blue-green color. Once roasted, these beans become exceptionally rich and dark, releasing distinctive notes of sage and fresh earth.

Whenever we visit Indonesia, we’re captivated by what we see: from dragon-like creatures to a mosaic of cultures and even these colorful, unique beans from Java. But the astounding flavors, released upon roasting, are what really make this coffee special—a rare and exquisite tasting experience that is the quintessence of a Starbucks Reserve® coffee.

This Starbucks Reserve® coffee is available only at select times and stores, so be sure to enjoy it when you can.

Delicious. Because of the $18/.5lb price tag, I was a bit skeptical. I thought, "How in the world is this coffee going to be THAT good?" So, I tried a cup at my local Starbucks which they brewed with the Clover. I'm glad I tried it, because after the first sip, I went right back into the store and bought the .5lb bag of Blue Java. Even though the notes say "syrup texture," it's silky smooth and tastes great. There are notes of chocolate and this coffee has a nice earthiness to it to really give it a nice body. Drinking this coffee makes you feel like you're actually drinking a REAL cup of coffee. If you order it via Clover or make it in your french press (which is the only way coffee should be enjoyed), then you can taste all the nice oils and tannins from the beans. I would highly recommend this to people who love a real, dark, smoky roast of coffee. Oh, and make sure you drink it black so you can TASTE the difference! August 11, 2012
(makes whistling noise) When this coffee was passed on to me I knew it was special, simply by the color of the bean. "What is that hue?" i asked myself. I opened the package. "What an enticing aroma!" Like discovering a new wine to taste to being served a delectable cut of meat at a restarant Starbucks Organic Blue Java danced across my pallet and into my belly at a time when it was most enjoyed and needed: on an empty stomach at 5AM. The herbal notes are hidden behind a dominant chocolate aroma, and when brewed in a French press, flavor is released that hangs wonderfully on the palette due to the syrupy body. Java:The Source. Full bodied and smooth One of my favorites RB's. Rich in flavor and extremely smooth tasting. A great weekend brew! June 22, 2012
Something Mising Lovely aroma and taste, but something missing. Just no bite to this coffee. June 18, 2012
My boo boo Before I placed the order, I forgot to check to be sure it was decaf. I cannot drink regular coffee at all due to severe stomach problems. I am going to try to sell it to my local Starbucks for credit on my Starbucks card. I'll try to be more careful with my orders in the future. BTW, I will be ordering every time you offer free delivery. I am confined to bed (I have a caretaker who handles everything for me, including my return to your store). Getting my decaf coffee delivered to my home has been a godsend. I like my coffee very strong, very dark and unfortunately it has sto be decaf. I will not drink anything but Starbucks. I'd rather go without than drink any other brand. June 2, 2012
