Starbucks® French Roast, Whole Bean

Muted with oil, the tumbling beans become eerily silent. A master roaster watches, knowing that if he pushes them a second too long, they'll burst into flame. White smoke hangs down as the glistening beans turn ebony. This is French Roast, and you can't roast it darker. Straightforward, light-bodied with low acidity, and immensely popular since 1971, our darkest roast is adored for its intense smokiness.

Recipe for great coffee

  1. Use cold, filtered water and a clean machine.
  2. Grind beans just before brewing:
    • Coarse for coffee press
    • Medium for automatic drip
  3. Measure 2 tbsp (10 g) ground coffee for every 6 fl oz (180 ml) water.

To help preserve that fresh flavor, keep this bag sealed tight in a cabinet (not in the refrigerator) and brew within a week of opening.

Each coffee requires slightly different amounts of time and temperature during the roasting process to create a cup at its peak of aroma, acidity, body and flavor. We classify our coffees in three roast profiles so you can easily find your desired flavor and intensity.

  • Blonde: Blonde-roasted coffees have a shorter roast time, lighter body and mellow flavors.
  • Medium: Medium-roasted coffees are balanced with smooth and rich flavors.
  • Dark: Dark-roasted coffees feature a fuller body and robust, bold flavors.

The best We have been drinking Starbucks exclusively since 1991. We had moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon and tasted this delicious coffee. We soon began grinding Starbucks whole bean French Roast and continue today. I like the convenience of home delivery. January 20, 2015
French Roast Whole Bean This coffee is delicious and retains the aspects of a rich, dark roast. Its robust flavor delivers just the right amount of caffeine and is my favorite part of the early morning! December 26, 2014
Best Coffee!! The French Roast by Starbucks is by far the best coffee ever!! Brewed in my French press, it is my one & only coffee in my home & on the go!! December 26, 2014
GOOD! My husband enjoys French roast coffee the best! Says it has a good rich flavor. December 24, 2014
French Roast is our favorite! Starbucks' French roast is my husband's and my favorite coffee! It has a unique flavor, a smoky quality, that we love. It has no sour taste like so many coffees have. We also enjoy the Espresso roast, which is a lovely coffee if French is too dark for you - but we'll go with the French every time. We've tried the Italian roast and found it to be much too bitter for our taste. The flavor in most other coffee seems to sit on the back of the tongue, while the wonderful, full flavor in this French roast seems to infiltrates the senses of taste and smell. December 16, 2014
