I love this machine! I have had this machine for about a year now and the longer I have it the more I enjoy it. Once I figured out how to use it for my particular drink (caramel machiato) I don't have to get up and run to Starbucks every morning , just on my way to work. The frothing attatchment makes perfect foam EVERY time! It is wonderful!!! October 29, 2012
Makes My Morning I've been using this machine now almost every morning for about 2 months and I have to say that I am pleased that I splurged for this automatic model. I really like that it heats up quickly (ready to go in less than 2 min, not even) and that I don't have to mess with grinding or packing the individual espresso shots. I also like that it is relatively small for an automatic machine (or at least smaller than I expected!). It's definitely bigger than a basic coffee pot, but I would say that it takes up less space on my counter than a microwave. It took me a couple of times to get used to the steam wand - I've never used one designed like this (and I'm still working on perfecting my technique for this wand). However, this steam wand does make it relatively easy to generate a good amount of micro-foam (and for you no-foamers you can always aerate less and let the milk settle ~30 sec). I do wish it was constructed with a little less plastic and a little more metal, but I think overall it's a solid piece of machinery. I read these reviews carefully before I bought this product, and I would like to agree with the other reviewers that this machine does take some TLC and maybe a little bit of patience. However, if you read the manual and learn what to tend to when the angry red exclamation point flashes its really not too bad. Just know that you need to check 3 main things: Do you have enough water? Are you out of beans in the hopper? Does the grounds drawer need to be emptied? And then once in a blue moon it will want you to clean the "brew group" or descale. In my opinion, this is part of owning an espresso machine. They need love. If you're looking to push a button and magically have a great tasting cup of coffee - then maybe something like the Keurig or Verismo machines are more right for you. I bought this machine when I left my position as a partner at Starbucks because I knew that I would miss hand-crafting my beverage. This machine is a good mid-range model that does what it should. I'm happy with it anyways. October 15, 2012
Great machine, need to have patience’s I love this espresso machine. My older semi-automatic machine was great, but it just got to be such a hassle to have to grind the beans, tamp it down, pull the shot, etc. If you didn’t grind properly or tamp properly than the shot was watery, weak, strong, or burnt. This machine takes all the guess work out. You just fill with water, drop your beans in, and let it go. It might take 2- 3 brews before the shot is perfect, but after that each shot is just as good as the last. Don’t just limit yourself to espresso beans either, try any dark, non-flavored roast for interesting tastes. Just remember that whenever you change beans, or even open a new bag of the same brand of beans you might have to go through 2 – 3 shots before the taste is just right. This machine has dual boilers so that your water is always hot and little to no wait for it to come up to proper temperature. It foams milk nicely, although I don't like a lot of foam in my milk, so I put a piece of tape over the small hole on the stainless steel aerator and this blocks extra air from entering the milk. Doing this requires you to be more adapt at milk frothing but the result is pure bliss of microfoam. One thing about this machine is that you need to have patience’s. There a ton of sensors on this machine and if any one of those is triggered than the machine will not work. If you are getting an error light you might have to reset the water, dreg drawer, brew head, or drip tray to make it work. You might have to let the machine prime water by pulling hot water through the steam valve before you use it if you don’t use it every day. You need to read and reread the manual and keep it handy as errors are a common occurrence with this machine but fortunately it usually is just a simply fix that takes less than 10 seconds to correct and the machine is back running. Also make sure you are inspecting your coffee beans and checking or rocks. Small rocks can sometimes be present in coffee bags and if these get into your machine forget it, you might as well send it in for repairs. Learn to use it, 95% of the problems people have with this machine are user’s not reading and understanding the manual correctly. You will be happy with this machine, is the little brother of bigger machines used at the stores. May 22, 2012
Does not work Just got it and it won;t even prime so can't use it!!!! February 14, 2012
Odea Giro Great for on the Go! My husband and I use it 2-4 times a day and a minimum of two years use. The trick is keep it clean and descale when it prompts. I bought one from sears and it seemed to be tampered with when all set up, However, I love this one from sbux- it has a great ease of use and yes it is plastic , not metal, but sturdy. I wish it was metal but it would be heavier and hard to replace if anything was to go on it. Saeco products are great and I have had mine for years I think it is comparable to automatic espresso machines but I still find it pricey. January 26, 2012
