Starbucks® Espresso Roast

Every espresso beverage we handcraft for you begins right here. Our master roasters coax the beans along, the heat taking them deep and dark—a recipe for caramelly sweetness so right it’s never been changed. The quest began in 1975 with a search for the perfect melding of beans and roast, ending months of intense experimentation later with the coffee you’re holding in your hand. A blend of beans from Latin America and Asia / Pacific, roasted the way only we can.

A Better Cup

We're committed to ethically sourcing and roasting the highest-quality arabica coffee in the world. When we buy coffee this way, it fosters a better future for farmers, and a more stable climate for the planet. It also helps create a long-term supply of the high-quality beans we've been carefully blending, roasting and packing fresh for more than 40 years.

Recipe for great coffee

  1. Use cold, filtered water and a clean machine.
  2. Grind beans just before brewing:
    • Coarse for coffee press
    • Medium for automatic drip
  3. Measure 2 tbsp (10 g) ground coffee for every 6 fl oz (180 ml) water.

To help preserve that fresh flavor, keep this bag sealed tight in a cabinet (not in the refrigerator) and brew within a week of opening.

Each coffee requires slightly different amounts of time and temperature during the roasting process to create a cup at its peak of aroma, acidity, body and flavor. We classify our coffees in three roast profiles so you can easily find your desired flavor and intensity.

  • Blonde: Blonde-roasted coffees have a shorter roast time, lighter body and mellow flavors.
  • Medium: Medium-roasted coffees are balanced with smooth and rich flavors.
  • Dark: Dark-roasted coffees feature a fuller body and robust, bold flavors.

Decent to Good Coffee The Starbuck's Espresso Coffee is as good as the Starbuck's coffee that you get at the Starbuck's store. It was fresher than the Starbuck's store bought espresso but it would have been better if it was made clearer that the coffee was whole bean and not ground and ready for the espresso/coffee maker. I had to bring the coffee with me the next time I went to the Starbuck's store to get the coffee ground so I could use it. Also, if you buy it at the store, you do not have to pay shipping and handling. The only reason why I bought it off the Starbuck's website was so I did not have to make a trip into Starbucks but I had to anyways to get the coffee ground and ready for use. Unfortunately, I will no longer buy the coffee from the Starbuck's online store due to I will have to pay shipping and handling charges and then I will anyways have to drive into Starbucks to get the espresso ground so I can use it in my espresso machine. Overall, the Starbuck's espresso coffee was what I expected. January 17, 2015
