Encore Coffee Grinder by Baratza
Great in all respects, especially for the price. Slight points off for:
1) quite loud (considerably louder than our little blade grinder, more like a pretty loud blender), although you'd have to go up a couple hundred dollars in price to find something much quieter,
2) the on/off switch is - circular? so there are four points around the circle - on-off-on-off. Simple, I guess but it seems like there could have just been one on and off, I don't get it.

Only had it a week, but it is perfect for my daily espresso grinds.
After 10 years of using a blade grinder, I was tired of getting different espresso shot results (and inconsistent taste and shot quality) and decided to buy a decent burr grinder. I purchased the Baratza Encore from Starbucks.com and received it in about one week. I have had the product for about a week now, and I use it every morning to pull 2 double-shots of espresso for my wife and myself. I grind directly into the porta-filter.
I dialed in a grind in just three tries that works for 2 different kinds of beans, and it is fine, consistent, and works perfect in my machine. It can go even finer for higher end machines.
I am so happy with this grinder, I am kicking myself for not buying in several years ago.

Best Grinder for the Price
It's a lovely grinder, and it gets the coffee really truly finely ground! The price was right and I'm very please with it. Especially with the non-static cling grounds holder. The manual shut off isn't that big of a problem from me, but it's the only thing I would take one star off for. Another added bonus is that if something breaks (like you drop the grounds holder) you can order the parts directly from the company.

Built to last, perfect for an espresso grind
My husband bought me an earlier model of this grinder as a Christmas gift 5 years ago from Starbucks. It is used at least twice a day for making espresso. A couple of weeks ago it quit grinding even though the motor sounded like it was working. Rather than toss it, I took it to Home Espresso Repair in Seattle. William (the extremely knowledgeable owner) looked at it, told me what he thought was wrong (the cog), and gave me the info to contact Baratza in Bellevue. I called Baratza, drove it over to their office in Bellevue, and they fixed it for me at no cost (which they do for locals). They showed me how it was designed for easy, low-cost repair in case stones (sometimes present) or the occasional green coffee beans (hard as stones) damage the cog (it was the cog that was damaged on mine). They also reserviced my grinder for free during the 20 minute visit. They expect that it should last at least another 5 more years, if not longer. I highly recommend this coffee grinder as it works worlds better than my handheld grinder for an espresso quality grind and the company made it so easy for me to get it repaired. If I hadn't been able to repair my grinder, I would have replaced it with this model. Because getting it repaired was so easy and it will last for years, I felt compelled to write this review.

Good coffee grinder.
A high-quality conical burr grinder with 40 grind settings and a quieter, more durable gearbox.
