Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup

This classic 12-cup coffee press is still made with the same painstaking craftsmanship as the original from the fifties, but this latest version has a new chrome-plated steel frame and lid that will last for years. It features a wide, matte-black polypropylene handle that provides a cool, comfortable grip and adds to the modern style of the design. The borosilicate glass carafe is heat-resistant, and the entire press is dishwasher safe.

How to Prepare

To make the finest coffee using your Chambord Coffee Press, use 1 rounded tablespoon (or 1 Bodum® scoop) of coarse-ground coffee for each 4-fl oz cup of coffee, and follow these simple steps:

  1. Add fresh, coarsely ground coffee to the pot.
  2. Pour in well-temperated water (not boiling) and stir.
  3. Wait 3 – 4 minutes.
  4. Stop the brewing process by gently pressing down the plunger.

Original coffee press design from the fifties is considered by coffee connoisseurs as one of the best ways to brew coffee.

Standard press features, nice capacity

By Just another Julie

from Puget Sound

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

I bought this to make iced coffee- had been using a 4 cup press & wanted larger capacity. It has the same basic parts as smaller presses I've had over the years. Just made a pot and it worked well. Nice that the directions recommended "coarse grind only," as finer coffee clogs presses. The quality is pretty good and it's stylish enough to leave out on your shelves when not in use.

Love the French Press but beware this size is BIG

By mwmh

from Massachusetts

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

This is a great French Press as I already knew from family members using in the past. My only issue was that I mistakenly ordered this size, thinking it was the same size my family members had...but it's not. It's very large and will not be usable for just a single cup. If you're looking to use in place of a coffee pot then this is a good option. Otherwise, I might size down.

Makes THE BEST coffee!

By anne671

from South Dakota

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

They say "good things come to those who wait. " I know this to be true. This coffee press takes just a few mins. (4 mins. To be exact) after your water boils to smell and enjoy the best cup of coffee ever! I'm ordering our second press; we've had one for years and worried the day it will break...now I will have my back up! Enjoy you won't be disappointed!

Great tasting coffee in the press

By joesplace

from Orchard Park, NY 14127, USA

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

The press is not a 12 cup unit, it only fills about 5 cups (8oz ea,). This was a disappointment...
Their was a slight chip in the glass...not noticeable.

best purchase I've made from Starbucks

By AliasM

from Seattle

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

I love this thing. Bodum presses are high quality and will least quite a while if you take care of them. I bought this as a replacement for an 8 cup press my roommates broke in the dishwasher - and I am quite glad I made the upgrade to 12 cup. I can drink the contents of an 8 cup by myself, so now I can actually share when I make coffee. :)

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

This is my second time purchasing a Chambord coffee maker. The reason I bought it again is because I liked it the first time, and was so sorry when my old one broke. This one is bigger and better.

Small cups

By IEnjoyCoffee

from State College, PA

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

Advertised as 12 cups. WARNING! These are FOUR ounce cups - hardly a 'cup' and certainly not a decent serving. Once you adjust for this, it is a good press for six cups of coffee.

Many Happy Cups, then no cups at all.

By YorkYorkYork

Comments about Chambord Coffee Press by Bodum®, 12-cup:

A fine device.*
French presses are relatively simple and ingenious little things, but this one is quite lovely to behold, stands out. Every piece is has a solid feel and it all disassembles for thorough cleaning. The Bodum carafe glass is thick and slides snugly into the base.

However, I must mention that mine did break after affording me 2 years of pleasant coffee experiences. Specifically, the glass broke. It was not due to an instance of dropping or banging it. It did crack, and the crack began as a perfectly straight line down the inside of the glass, which caused me to suspect the metal mesh on the plunger.
Looking at my plunger, I did notice the mesh filter unraveling a bit, with a bit of sharp metal wire sticking out along the edge. I concluded that that placing the plunger in the pot was akin to using a glass-cutter. So,simply using a less that pristine filter as intended resulted in a shallow cut in the glass which-after the constant heating and cooling of the french press as it brewed coffee- caused the carafe to eventually break.
!!!
So, if you buy a press like this, it might behoove you to chuck your filter at the slightest hint of damage to the part of the filter that contacts the glass. I've no idea how much it would set you back, but its probably cheaper than replacing the carafe, which would be about $18 each, depending on where you find them avalable.

*I'm reviewing a different color (i.e. red, but still steel [ha!] as shown) of the same size Chambord press. If you buy a different color with the shiny, lacquer-like finish, be aware of the fact that it may chip or crack in a dishwasher, even if the product is described as 'dishwasher safe'. My finish did, but I used an abrasive pad to scrub the finish off the plunger top, which gave my chambord an improved two-tone look. Yeah!
I cannot comment on this new chrome finish.

PS
I implore you to brew loose-leaf tea and herbal tea in your Chambrod (I did!) in addition to coffee. The carafe allows the tea leaves and/or other dried ingredients to expand fully, ensuring that all the deliciousness is pulled from them. Increasing exposure to the solvent (water) is important! Watching tea brew in the large carafe with natural backlighting is as beautiful as watching calm snowfall or a time-lapse of flowers blooming.
