How To Make Cold Brew Coffee

Three easy ways to enjoy cold brew at home

Is cold brew coffee just another way to say iced coffee? Nope. Iced coffee is brewed double strength with heat and then served over ice. Cold brew is different. It’s made without heat, relying on a long steep time to extract flavor from the ground coffee. The same coffee brewed hot will taste different than that coffee cold brewed. It’s sweeter and smooth with less acidity. There are a lot of ways to cold brew coffee. Here are three of our favorites.

How To Make Cold Brew

Recipe: Cold Brew with the Toddy® Cold Brew System

Make 56 fl oz of cold brew concentrate

What you’ll need

  • Toddy® Cold Brew System
  • Wooden spoon
  • 12 ounces of coarsely ground medium-roast coffee
  • 56 fl oz (7 cups) of filtered water

Directions

First, place the dampened filter into the brewing container. Then insert the stopper. Make sure the stopper is secure but not so far in that it knocks the filter out of place. Add a cup of water, then 6 ounces of ground coffee. Slowly pour 3 more cups of water over the grounds. Then add the remaining 6 ounces of coffee. Slowly add the last 3 cups of water. Don’t stir (you don’t want to clog the filter). Use a spoon to make sure all grounds get wet. We recommend placing the brewing container on glass carafe while it’s brewing in your refrigerator (just in case it leaks). Let it cold brew for 16-20 hours. Remove from refrigerator and carefully pull out stopper from brewing container and let the coffee drip into the glass carafe. It takes about 15 minutes to fully flow into carafe. Keep it chilled in the refrigerator. It will last for 3-5 days. When serving, add water to taste.
